Empowering Photographers: UX for Better Gallery Management & E-Commerce

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Shootproof is a platform that simplifies photographers' work through better gallery management and e-commerce. I led design efforts for gallery enhancements, researched workflows, and developed store integration, aiming to streamline gallery creation, improve photo presentation, and enhance the shopping experience, ultimately helping photographers grow their businesses.

THE CHALLENGE

Existing Shootproof users identified several key pain points related to gallery management and e-commerce:

  • Complex Gallery Setup: Initial gallery setup could be time-consuming, particularly for large shoots with numerous photos.

  • Limited Customization: Photographers desired more control over gallery layout and visual presentation to better match their brand.

  • Convoluted Shopping Experience: The client shopping experience could be confusing, leading to cart abandonment and missed sales opportunities.

  • Lack of Mobile Optimization: The shopping experience on mobile devices was not optimal, hindering purchases from mobile users.

THE GOAL

Our goal was to redesign the gallery management and e-commerce integration to:

  • Simplify the gallery creation and upload process for increased efficiency.

  • Provide more customization options for galleries to reflect individual photographer branding.

  • Create a seamless and intuitive shopping experience for clients, leading to increased sales.

  • Ensure a fully responsive and optimized experience across all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).

DISCOVERY & RESEARCH

USER Interviews

  • Conducted interviews with a diverse group of Shootproof users (both experienced and new) to understand their gallery management and e-commerce workflows, pain points, and desired features

JOURNEY MAPPING

  • Mapped out the client journey from gallery access to purchase completion to identify potential drop-off points and optimization opportunities.

Competitive Analysis

  • Researched competitor platforms to identify best-in-class gallery management and e-commerce features and design patterns

DESIGN & PROTOTYPING

IA Refinement

  • Optimized the IA to streamline gallery setup and management, making it easier for photographers to find and use key features.

Interactive Prototyping

  • Developed interactive prototypes using tools like Figma to simulate the user experience and test design concepts.

A/B Testing (Visual Presentation)

  • Created multiple design variations for gallery layouts, product presentation, and conducted A/B testing to determine which designs resonated most with clients.

Streamlined Gallery Upload

  • Implemented a drag-and-drop interface for easy photo uploading and organization.

Simplified Product Selection

  • Redesigned the product selection process to be more intuitive and visually appealing, with clear pricing and product descriptions

KEY FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITY

Usability TESTS

  • Conducted usability testing on the existing Shootproof platform to identify areas of friction and opportunities for improvement.

Wireframing & Mockups

  • Created low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity mockups to visualize the redesigned gallery interface and shopping experience.

Enhanced CustomizationS:

  • Provided photographers with greater control over gallery layouts, themes, fonts, and colors to match their brand identity.

One-Page CheckouT:

  • Implemented a streamlined one-page checkout process to reduce friction and increase conversion rates.

Increased User Efficiency

  • 30% Reduction in Gallery Setup Time: The streamlined upload and organization process saved photographers valuable time.

Improved Client Experience:

  • 15% Increase in Conversion Rate: The simplified shopping experience led to a significant increase in sales.

IMPACT & RESULTS

Enhanced Brand Representation:

  • Positive User Feedback: Photographers praised the enhanced customization options for allowing them to better showcase their brand.

lESSONS LEARNED:

This project highlighted the importance of:

  • Deep User Understanding: Thorough research and understanding of photographer and client needs are crucial for designing effective solutions.

  • Balancing Customization and Simplicity: Providing customization options while maintaining a user-friendly interface is key to empowering users without overwhelming them.

  • Mobile-First Thinking: Prioritizing the mobile experience is essential in today's mobile-dominated world.

CONCLUSION

This project provided me with valuable experience in optimizing e-commerce conversion rates, designing for diverse user needs, and leading a cross-functional design effort. By focusing on user needs and employing a data-driven design approach, I helped Shootproof empower photographers to streamline their workflows, enhance their brand presence, and ultimately grow their businesses.
