Scaling Vertical SaaS: Modernizing Gallery Architecture and Checkout Conversion for 350,000 Photographers

PROJECT OVERVIEW

As Senior UX Designer, I led the experience architecture and e-commerce redesign for ShootProof’s core SaaS platform. The initiative focused on modernizing two interconnected workflows: the photographer-facing gallery management suite and the consumer-facing client storefront. By overhauling information architecture, simplifying complex batch-management operations, and redesigning the checkout funnel into a frictionless single-page experience, we eliminated critical friction points and drove substantial gains in platform conversion and seller efficiency.

The Challenge

Complex Asset Operations and Funnel Drop-off ShootProof served a global user base managing high-volume creative assets and client transactions. However, legacy platform architecture created bottlenecks for both sellers and buyers:

  • High-Friction Gallery Onboarding: Uploading, organizing, and configuring large image catalogs was cumbersome and time-intensive, delaying client delivery.

  • Fragmented Storefront Customization: Photographers lacked flexible controls to reflect their brand identity cleanly across diverse client touchpoints.

  • High Cart Abandonment: A multi-step, fragmented checkout flow introduced unnecessary cognitive load for end consumers, resulting in abandoned transactions and missed revenue.

  • Responsive Inconsistencies: The shopping experience was not fully optimized for mobile devices, constraining purchases from clients reviewing galleries on smartphones.

Strategic UX Goals

  • Streamline Asset and Catalog Workflows: Architect intuitive drag-and-drop batch upload and organization tools to cut gallery setup time.

  • Modernize E-Commerce Conversion: Transition complex multi-step checkout pathways into an optimized, high-converting checkout experience.

  • Empower Brand Expression: Provide structured, accessible customization options that allow photographers to tailor visual presentation without breaking platform coherence.

  • Cross-Platform Fluidity: Deliver a fully responsive, mobile-first design system ensuring seamless gallery browsing and checkout across desktop, tablet, and mobile viewports.

Research and Discovery Insights

  • In-Depth User Interviews: Conducted qualitative sessions with high-volume photographers to uncover friction points within catalog management, pricing tiers, and lab fulfillment integrations.

  • Usability Testing: Evaluated live user journeys to isolate drop-off triggers within the legacy cart and checkout steps.

  • End-to-End Journey Mapping: Mapped the complete transaction lifecycle from initial gallery invite to digital download and physical print fulfillment, identifying 11 high-priority usability interventions.

Systems Architecture and Key Solutions

Advanced Gallery Management Suite

  • Streamlined Drag-and-Drop Ingestion: Designed batch-processing and asset categorization tools that cut upload overhead and accelerated delivery timelines.

  • Modular Customization Controls: Built intuitive controls allowing photographers to customize layouts, watermarking, and pricing structures with instant live previews.

Optimized Client Commerce Experience

  • Frictionless Checkout Flow: Redesigned the purchasing journey to reduce form fields, clarify print-product selections, and present shipping options with absolute clarity.

  • Mobile-Optimized Proofing and Purchasing: Crafted touch-friendly image selection and favoriting tools, enabling clients to select packages and complete purchases smoothly on any screen size.

Cross-Functional Execution and Governance

  • Interactive Prototyping in Figma: Developed high-fidelity prototypes to test navigation logic, responsive behaviors, and micro-interactions with target users before engineering handoff.

  • Cross-Functional Workshops: Facilitated 6 alignment workshops across Product, Engineering, and Support to align stakeholders on design principles and sprint delivery roadmaps.
